Biography

David Shankle is one of the most respected and talented guitarists shredding up the metal scene today. David was a member of MANOWAR from 1988 to 1994, playing on the album "The Triumph Of Steel" After setting out on his own, David attended Roosevelt Music University in Chicago to improve his jazz and classical guitar skills. He has mastered many advanced guitar techniques, including his signature "over-the-neck" playing, which can be seen in the video for "Ashes To Ashes" In fact, David has refined this technique so well that he plays over the neck faster than many guitarists play normally. Now, having nearly perfected his craft, David brings years of experience and hard work to the table with the DAVID SHANKLE GROUP.

His incredible technique and blistering speed on the guitar have won him the moniker "the Shred Demon". With custom 7-string and 8-string guitars in both traditional (DS7 and DS8) and 36 fret (DS36-7 and DS36-8) being made by Waylon Ford of Halo Guitars and the first of six instructional videos available through ShredAcademy.com, David continues to make his mark on the guitar world. Fronting his own impressive band, the DAVID SHANKLE GROUP (also known as DSG), David introduced the metal world to a new breed of speed while, at the same time, displaying awesome classical guitar and balladry on the band’s debut album "Ashes To Ashes", which was released in 2003 on Magic Circle Music. Now in 2007, DSG is prepared to release their second album, "Hellborn", which is guaranteed to melt your face in digital format worldwide.

Joining David on "Hellborn" are three handpicked musicians, each with his own unique skills. On lead vocals, Dennis Hirschauer brings a strong, dynamic power metal sound and well-written lyrics to the fold. Drummer Brad Sabathne provides a fast and brutal double bass assault combined with the heart of a true rock and metal drummer. Bassist Jeff Kylloe has played with neoclassical guitarist George Bellas and has the technical prowess and speed to complement the fast-paced music that DSG is known for.

"Hellborn" is focused on a heavy, gritty guitar sound. In using 7-string guitars to expand horizons, David shows that he is a true guitar wizard and 7-string monster. One of the crown jewels of this album is "The Voyage (An Instrumental Shred Fest)" which is a tremendous instrumental explosion featuring consecutive solos from guitar talents TD Clark, Joe Stump, Michael Angelo Batio and finally, the Shred Demon himself, David Shankle. David is known for having a vast array of musical influences and styles at his command. "Hellborn" is a good indicator of that flexibility.
