Dennis Hirschauer is like the city
he was born in. He and Chicago have the blues in their soul, live
on the edge, a little windy and they both stand tall. He uses life’s
dark side as his lyrical inspiration. This mixed with his natural
vocal aggression and moody melodies, and then stirred in with the
inconceivable guitar workings of David Shankle; it forms a cocktail
of perfection for the metal world.
Singing isn’t where music began for Dennis; he actually
started as a drummer and then expanded his talents by default
when no one else in his first band volunteered to sing. After
a few years of playing/singing he decided to choose a direction
and took vocal instruction from a well known Chicago vocalist.
This began a number of changes. He moved to Wisconsin to join
Bias Authority and recorded Vex. Even years after the band’s
demise, their music and its former members are well remembered
by a large number of people in the northern Wisconsin / Minnesota
area for their purely aggressive style.
The death of his father brought Dennis back to the Chicagoland
area and coincidentally dropped him into a nearly finished project
with Tempered Faith. Together they completed two CDs, the self-titled
Tempered Faith and Heavy. The band and the recording experience
brought him to level of professionalism he had not yet known.
This brings us up to today where he is now with The David Shankle
Group aka DSG. He was introduced to David by one of David’s
guitar students who is also a friend of Tempered Faith’s.
As his audition, Dennis was asked to perform Ashes to Ashes and
given a new song with the task of finding lyrics and a melody
for it. This was the beginning of the resurrection of DSG and
the song Left to Die which will be on the soon to be released
CD - HELLBORN. Two years later and once the collaborated effort
was finished, the music was completed and ready for production.
The next step was to start recording at Farview Recording and
to put together the rest of the band. Finding other band members
to compliment Dave’s over the edge guitar playing and Dennis’
raw edged vocals wasn’t an easy task but with Brad Sabathne
on drums and Jeff Kylloe on bass DSG has been HELLBORN.
